Regional Environmental & Regulatory Affairs Committee

The Regional Environmental and Regulatory Affairs Committee provides an industry member forum to discuss issues related to potential environmental impacts of oil sands development within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
Current Discussions and Activities
- Develop and/or endorse recommended industry position on proposed scope/deliverables, schedules and budgets for items that are regional in nature
- Provide a member forum to discuss issues related to potential regulatory processes/issues with potential impact on oil sands development
- Update OSDG Board members on issues/recommendations worked/made by committee
- Ascertain which issues are of a regional nature (vs. project-specific) and identify an appropriate forum
- Communicate between industry members with respect to regional groups/stakeholder/regulators
- Regional regulatory initiatives by Government of Alberta ministries
- Industry response to in-stream flow needs (Athabasca River)
- Emissions guidelines
- Government process for fulfilling consultation obligations and setting regional environmental work priorities
